Back in Austin from Germany -

           TISH HINOJOSA

Performing at El Sol

Wednesday April 9th @ 7:30-9:30!

Don't miss this event!

The originator of Sol Food, El Sol y La Luna is Austin's laid back home for Interior Mexican, Border Tex-Mex and Central American cuisines, foods that writers collectively term "foods of the sun": alimentos del sol. It's food so good that it's good for the soul.

We've been named one of Hispanic magazine's Top 50 restaurants in the United States. The New York Times and magazines from Canada have noticed us, as well. Plus, we consistently make our own Austin Chronicle's Readers Poll, and we figure that's the most telling vote we can get, because nobody knows good south of the border food like Austinites do.

Lines form on weekends for our fresh sangria and award-winning hominy-chicken soup that's known as pozole, as well as our live music that rocks and sometimes cradles our customers into the night. During the week, people rise early just to make it here for breakfast before they have to get to their jobs and on Sundays they often arrive late to talk about the goings on from the night before.

We're the neighborhood bistro, Austin-style, with local artisan artwork on display, alters amid the dining room, and local school children's 'Thank you' notes and posters of upcoming art and local events hand-plastered on our doors. El Sol y La Luna is more than food. It's family AND food...great food!

Welcome to our website. It's an extension of our restaurant, and as such we hope you find it comfortable to roam around in, slightly different, and full of community spirit. Most of all, we hope that like our restaurant it makes your mouth water for Mexican, Tex-Mex and Central American food that tastes better than you ever dreamed it could.

Welcome to El Sol y La Luna.

Fooooooooood!

El Sol y La Luna began because of our love of food. We're part of the community now, but we're still all about food!

You'll catch our menu on this website. It's big and it's broad and it's gonna make you break speed limits getting down here. Our job now: whet your appetite. Here we go...

It's breakfast. Start with something different. Ever had plantains? You ought to, so let's begin there. Our plantain breakfast includes two eggs, black beans and some of the most amazing fried plantains you'll ever have. Sour cream, of course, comes on the side. Want something more traditional? Try the Huevos a la Mexicana. This is the real deal: two scrambled eggs with onion and bell peppers and tomato served alongside beans and potatoes.

You're back for lunch - or is it dinner?, and you're beginning with an appetizer of smoked salmon, cream cheese and wheat crackers and capers. Have some fresh sangria with that. Your salad's our Ensalada Lunar, with jimaca, shredded beets and cucumbers on a bed of mixed greens - with lemon juice and cayenne pepper dressing on the side. The entree's Enchiladas Zacatecanas. You're going to love this! Subtle flavors of our exquisite avacado sauce plus a light sprinkling of cheese top one of the most perfect enchiladas (either chicken, beef or cheese) you've ever tasted. Finish it off with a fantastic Pastel de Tres Leches and then a mango-wine margarita, and you're set. Till breakfast tomorrow.
